Paving progress

 Since Monday  the year 12's and I have been planning out our new paving path we  are going to build outside the hall. The reason we want to build a new pavement foot path is because the students tend to track mud into their classes, so we want to eliminate the problem and build our pavement path for the solution.  What we did first is we had a long look at where we want our path, how long we want it and how wide. We calculated the width and length of the path. The width of it is 1.5 metres and the length is 3.50 metres. We also decide that instead of a straight path we want it to go out wider.

My theory work

 This week I haven't done any practical work because I've been fully focused on my paperwork that I wanted to get done to earn my credits. So far I've finished my retaining wall and concreting unit paperwork and still writing my power tool work. 

For power tools I'm just talking about what power tools I've used , why they are good to use and how to use them. 

My soft skills

Kia ora my name is Ngapua and today I found out 3 of my key soft skills or attributes towards my working life on site.

Soft skills are attributes and attitude traits that are helpful and useful on work sites.

my help at explain to them clearly.


My adaptability to show up on time and to be able to communicate with work mates is a key

attribute towards my work life on site, for me to be able to communicate I also can listen to

what others have to say on work site.

Retaining Wall.

For the past 2 weeks we have been working on our year 12 project outside the hall to create and build a retaining wall. We built this retaining wall for the school so they have a place to sit down and lunchtime underneath the shelters of the trees inside the wall. What I liked about working on this project was that it was relatively easy but there were hard moments during the process of our project. For example while digging our holes for the post we came across an old concrete spill underneath the dirt, it was very hard to get rid of so we had to come up with a few ideas. Some of us that it was best to just smash through it were sledge hammers but I thought it was better to see if we had a jack hammer in class and we did. The jack hammer really helped us during that moment. 

I am really happy of our project came along at the end and hope that everyone uses it with respect.

Kia ora, my name is Ngapua I'm a year 12 at Bay of islands college and this is my first blog since December 5th 2019. Today I would like to talk to you all about my experience so far at Bay of Islands College in the building academy class. So far I love it, learning new things such as simple things like knowing the names of different tools, knowing what types of timber like 4x2 and 6x2 etc. I've contributed to helping out building the school a new PE shed to hold our school equipment such as javelins, high jump mats and more. I've also help build the school a new long jump pit box and right now we're in the process of a new retaining wall right outside of the hall for everyone to sit on during how days underneath the tree above the retaining wall and a new foot path below the canteen for because the old foot path has cracked and isn't quite good looking anymore. Also once every week I go out on mondays with WhaOut builders to get a more deeper  understanding and to also gain experience of what a real work day is and how it will be if I keep choosing the path of a builders career. 

Activity 3# Christopher Columbus

Hello again today we are still getting a taste of what the summer learning journey feels like but I still think it´s a waste of my holiday time. For today we are doing the third activity. I have chosen to do Barack Obama.

Activity 2# Sport & leisure. G.O.A.T

Today we are doing activity 2. For this activity we are able to choose what we wanted to do. I chose to learn about Garry Kasparov, one of the best chess players of all time. Here are some facts

Garry Kasparov is a famous chess player and one of the best chess players of them all. He ranked best chess player for 15 years straight, until the greatest chess game between the best players of all time. Garry Kasparov vs Bobby Fischer. At the end Bobby Fischer won the greatest battle. Garry Kasparov is now second best chess player in the world.

My advantages.

New Zealand Royalty

Today we we´re researching about Lorde or Ella. She is currently 23 years old, she was born in 1996 on the 7th of November. The reason we are researching this person because we are getting a taste of what the Summer Learning journey activity are like. In my opinion I feel I don´t have enough time to do the S,L,J in my holidays.

Legacy writing

Today we we're writing letters to the past people that have left a legacy, Ta Hemi Henare has left a legacy and he has inspired me. So this my letter to him.

Ski Camp 2019

This year we went to Mt Ruapehu for our ski camp.
It was really fun and the part I like was skiing on the top part of the Mountain, We went for ski lessons for the people who didn't know how to ski.
It was really cool skiing and really easy for me and a few people.

Should animals be kept as pets?

I'm learning to do persuasive writing. Our topic is Should animals be kept as pets? In my opinion is yes they should. The easy part was persuading and the hard part is getting more ideas.


I strongly believe that animals should be kept as pets because they are your companion through your darkest times and your most lonely times. Secondly I believe animals should be kept as pets because they guide blind people to their home or shops. Finally I strongly believe that animals should be kept as because they protect you from other dangerous animals and people, also they are good friends to people that are always lonely.   

Personification writing

last week I learnt how to write a personification writing. I learnt how to describe things that aren't human human things, Example " the water-fall punch the ground with powerful force"
The easy part was describing non-human items. The hard part was describing animals.

Making Hangi

Last week I learnt how to cook a hangi in a hole.

I learnt how to gather all the logs and sticks we need and bag the veges.

The easy part was gathering all the logs and sticks. and the hard part was waking up at 5:00 am.

I learnt that cooking hangi in a hole is more delicious than steam hangi.

I was in agree, the easy part was getting some ideas, the hard part was persuading the other group. I learnt how to persuade by listing the reasons. Cultural Festival

Two weeks ago we had a Cultural Festival, we had food to sell and performance's, their was 2 schools and 2 Kohanga's, Maramaku, Waikare, Te Mirumiru and Te Kohanga Reo o Kawakawa. And the last performance was by Te Rau pou manawa o Kawakawa, and I was in it.

Waitangi

Last week we went to Waitangi for digital Technology, we learnt and tutu on most of the tech that was there. After all the tutu we when out to look at the rest of the museum, I learnt that there was another Pakeha that came to New Zealand before Captain Cook and his name was Abel Tasman, He left NZ straight  a way because he tried to communicate to the Maori but he blow his trumpet 3 time, that

means war to Maori and the Maori killed most of Abel's Men, for the tech I learnt how to use tinker cad, Tinker cad is a app that you tinker in and make 3d objects.

Orientation Writing

This week for writing I have been learning how to write an Narrative orientation. The easy part was planning the scene. The hard part was introducing the characters. My goal for next time is to introduce the characters and fix up my spelling errors.
